Introduction

    Welcome to North Miami Beach Adult Satellite Center. The North Miami Adult Education Center sponsors this Adult Satellite Center. The Adult and Vocational Program are designed to provide a wide range of activities and services to the community. The program is composed of adults of all ages and offers ESOL, GED, continuing education, academic and vocational education programs.    Please review the various guidelines stated in the "Teachers Handbook". It is hoped that this document will answer your questions regarding the Adult Education Program.

    Once again we are glad to have you as a participant in the North Miami Beach Adult Satellite Center.


FEES

    Every effort will be made to provide Vocational and Community School activities at the lowest possible cost. The office of Vocational Adult Career and Community Education approves fees for all classes and activities.

REGISTRATION

    Registration will be held Monday through Thursday from 2:30 p. m. 8:30 p. m. Listed fees do not include the cost of textbooks or materials unless indicated. Additionally, all students must purchase and wear a photo ID. The cost is $2.00.

Registration By Mail

1.       There is no registration by mail.

Payments information

2.       All payments must be received on the date of registration.  No Payments in checks will be accepted.

3.       Classes begin on the starting date listed. You WILL NOT be notified unless the class is canceled or is filled. Report to the main office to pick up your schedule receipt form.

    Please call (305) 949-8381 for registration information.  A waiting list will be kept until sufficient enrollments are met. Call Mr. Francois between 2:30p. m. and 8:30 p. m. Monday through Thursday or Friday 10:00 a. m. 2:00 p. m.

REFUND POLICY

    There will be no refunds for voluntary class withdrawal after the first class session. Classes, dates, times, and fees are subject to change. All refunds will be by check. No refunds will be made after the first activity session. All requests for refunds must be recommended by the North Miami Adult Education Center, Treasurers Office. If it becomes necessary to cancel a class or activity due to administrative reasons, refunds will be made. Fees will be pro-rated for classes attended before the class closing. The receipt you were issued when you registered must accompany all refund requests.

ID BADGES

    In order to provide a safe environment everyone in the building must wear a picture ID badge that indicates they are registered for the appropriate term. Badges must be worn so that they are visible at all times and must be worn hanging on the chain around the neck.

CHILDCARE

    Children registering for the childcare program must have one or both parents registered at the school for eligibility.  Proper documentation must be filed by the parents, please see Ms. Blot for more information.

CLASS WITHDRAWAL/TRANSFE RS

Students dropping out of class cannot transfer their registration to anyone else even in the same family. If you request a transfer from one paying class to another paying class it should be to a class at the same fee (cost).

 

STUDENT SUBSTITUTIONS

    Students dropping out of class cannot transfer their registration to others. In case of absence such as sickness, students are not allowed to have others audit the class for them.

SUBTITUTE TEACHER

    When an instructor is unable to make it to class on a particular evening due to illness or similar reason, every effort will be made to contact a substitute teacher for the class.

TELEPHONE USEAGE

    Students may use the pay phone in the lobby area. Phones are available only from 6:00 - 6:30 PM: 8:000 - 8:30 PM: and after 9:00 PM.

BICYCLES/SKATES/SKATEBOARDS/ROLLER BLADES

    Bicycles, skates, skateboards and ROLLER BLADES are not permitted inside the School building. Bicycles are to be left out side locked.

PERSONAL ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

    The Code of Student Conduct states that electronic equipment that disrupts the orderly process is prohibited. The use of electronic beepers, telephone pagers, cellular phones, radios, CD or tape players or boom boxes is prohibited.

PARKING

    Students may park in either the Northeast or the West parking lot.

MATERIALS SUPPLIES EQUIPMENT

    Some classes require books, material, and supplies to be provided by the students. Instructors will inform their students of these items at the first class meeting. Books may be purchased in the Main Office after 5:00 p. m. Monday through Thursday.

TEACHER'S LOUNGE

    Students are not allowed in the teacher's lounge. Vending machines and phone use in the lounge is not permitted.

 

FOOD IN CLASSROOMS

    Refreshments are not permitted inside the classrooms. However, refreshments and beverages are permitted in the cafeteria. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building or on school grounds.

ALCOHOL BEVERAGES

    Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs are not permitted on school grounds.

CLASSROOM FURNITURE

    Please do not move classroom furniture, as it must be replaced in the exact same location. Please consult your instructor before furniture is moved in the classroom.

ACCIDENTS

    Please report all accidents to the school office no matter how minor it may seem. Office personnel will complete an accident report.

OPERATING HOURS ACCIDENTS

North Miami Beach Adult Satellite Center is in operation Monday through Thursday 2:00 - 10:00 p. m. and Friday 9:00 a. m. to 5:00 p.m.

SPECIAL NEEDS

    Office personnel will make every effort to provide for the special needs of the students. Don't hesitate to advise the office of your special needs.

STUDENT BEHAVIOR

    Students are expected to behave in a reasonable manner consistent with the best interest of other students and the total school program. Disruptive students may be removed from the activity without refund. The Code of Student conduct for Elementary, Secondary, or Adults will be enforced. You are encouraged to read the complete Code of Conduct in order to develop a thorough understanding of the information included.
